Notes from the intersection of food and finance,
with Stephanie L. Walton
What's going on here:
The Food Ledger is a resource for those curious about food, money or both. I'm your humble host, Stephanie: PhD researcher at the Oxford Sustainable Finance Group, formerly of the Centre for Food Policy, with an equal love of Industry and Matty Matheson.

We're going to get into all the interesting ways that money shapes our food (so ultimately our environment and our health) and food shapes our money (both the UHNWI's and the pensioner's).
Obviously, we all love a good academic paper. However, here, to tackle these most complex and tricky of subjects, we'll rely on those oldest and most revered communication devices: humour (or attempts at it) and shared pop culture references.

My own research looks at stranded assets in the meatpacking industry from a transition towards sustainable and healthy diets. I like to work with satellite imagery, public records, financial filings and other bits and bobs to pull together the 'money stories' behind our food systems. So we'll get into some of these topics as well because my husband is sick of hearing about them and a girl's gotta emote somewhere.

This endeavor is decidedly, dare I say, interdisciplinary - which is either a glowing asset or fatal flaw, depending on if you're talking to a human or an economist. BUT! As Samin taught us with salt, fat, acid and heat, all the most interesting and flavourful bits of life occur at the intersection of things. And what is life without a little flavour?
